Turning thirty and revisiting the {30x30} list.
Today I turn thirty.
A little less than a year ago, I had a minor freakout that it was approaching and I wasn’t ready. I hadn’t yet figured out my life. I was living in a city I didn’t appreciate working way too many hours at a job I didn’t love. I wasn’t married (not even remotely close), and didn’t have what some of my 30+ year old friends did (I didn’t...

Mission Accomplished {30x30}: Learn to sabre a bottle of champagne.
It wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought and I mastered it on my first try. Also, you can count on me to bring a bottle of champagne to the next 10 parties I attend, not because I want to show off my new party trick (although I do) but because I thought it might take a case-worth of bubbles to master this.
Little did I know...

{30x30} mission: say yes when asked to do things
Some things in life (and on my 30x30 list) just aren’t checkoffable. When I lived in London for 6 months back in 2002, one of the things I set my mind to was trying every new experience that came my way. I wanted to make sure I lived every bit of life there was to live while I was abroad. Whether it was something new to eat/drink, someplace new to travel, a new museum, a theatre invite, a...

Mission Accomplished {30x30}: Learn how to bake...
I think it was reinforced by that movie Because I Said So, but a girl just has to know how to bake a souffle, right? I’d never had souffle before yesterday and I’d certainly never tried to make it, but I’ve also thought that a souffle would be something worth knowing how to bake. So when I made my 30 by 30 list back in December, souffle was right near the top.
Thanks to a super...

Mission Accomplished {30x30}: Run a Half Marathon
Last Saturday was the Seattle Rock and Roll Half Marathon. And I finished it! I have a medal and everything to prove it!
Signing up for this race prompted me to start running. Back in January when I signed up, I figured I’d better practice getting my ass off the couch and moving in a forward direction before I had to do it for 13.1 miles all at a time. So I did. Training went well for...

To those that haven’t been following what I’ve been up to lately, here is a break down:
Edit: Here’s a nice local news piece by the CBS affiliate.
Last year friends and I hung swings across San Francisco and the reception was incredible. I went on to install more...

T-25 days
I’ve been in a state of neglect lately. I’ve neglected my blog, I’ve neglected my training, I’ve neglected my body. In 25 days I will run my first half marathon and I haven’t run since May 1. Here’s what’s been up since then:
i quit my job
i got a new job
i started my new job
dog got sick
dog got better
i walk 2 miles a day to/from bus/work

Feb+March dollars4miles
My half marathon training is in full swing and since I’m broker than ever, what better time to update my Dollars4Miles donation to Abel’s 6n6 challenge. Here’s where the rest of February and all of March netted out:
5.33 mi Running (read: a few pup walks. i was slacking) for Feb = $6
7.56 mi Running (read: actually running) for March = $8
$14 isn’t much, in fact...

baby, baby, baby oooooh
Last night brought my return to half marathon training. 60 minuts of run/walking with pup in the rain. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t sore today and if I didn’t admit that the jam of the night was Justin Bieber’s Baby. I’d avoided it for a long time, but damn that song is catchy. I will only listen to it if it’s in the middle of an intense workout sesh. End of...
Alone or lonely
Seeing a movie by myself tonight. Not sure if I’m feeling lonely or just alone. And I’m wondering if Bradley Cooper and his Limitless possibilities will make whatever it is, a little less so.

free laundry day!!
All the boys are at the Mars Hill Men’s Advance and my dear friend left me a key to his place so i could get my free laundry on. In exchange, I mopped the floors and did the dishes. The thing is, his washing machine takes, like, forever. And I think i brought more laundry than I could do before he gets back. like, way more.

Just Do It!: Dollars4Miles
Can i just say that I hate running. So much. I’m still not entirely sure why I added a half marathon to my 30x30 list, or why on earth I signed up for the Northwest Passage Ragnar (200+ mi) Relay race in July, but I did. And for a quick update, since that really awesome run like 3 weeks ago, I haven’t touched the treadmill. Training kicks into high gear next month so I really need to...

dollars4miles: supporting Abel's 6n6
I’ve been thinking about doing this for a couple weeks now, so it’s time to officially put it out there.
I’ve been following Abel’s crazy yet awesome quest to run 6 marathons in 6 months to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and I can’t lie, while it wasn’t what got me started running (read: jogging), it’s definitely what keeps me going...
Confession: The Bachelor
I am skipping the gym tonight because I’m watching The Bachelor. I realize how lame this is and it will not happen regularly. But tonight, alas, the pull was too strong.

Recap: My very first 5K
Last week I ran my first 5K. Having never run a race before, and not paying too much attention to the name of the race (Guerilla Running Winter Cross), it was a cross country thing. Which means we ran in a field behind a driving range.
It was cold, it was grassy and it was full of people that are part of this “Guerilla Running” running club. They were decked out in their racing gear...
First Race Jitters
I’m about to run my first ever race. A 5k in Tumwater, WA. From what I can tell it’s a very small race put on by a local running club. I will most likely be coming in dead last in the women’s 5k because all these women look to be hard core runners.
But I’m remembering what 6n6, 365to30 and others blogged about yesterday. Running isn’t about beating the other...

Mission Accomplished {30x30}: Swim in the ocean
…and not panic. done and done.
It was a warm super sunny day in Isla Mujeres, Mexico with the whole family…our Christmas vacation in January. After 2 days of sunburn (err, sunshine) and 3 days of rain (read: movies and inland island adventures), I found myself standing at the edge of the beach with a mask and snorkel in my hand pondering whether or not I really could, in fact, swim...
VACATION, BABY!!
Today was my last day in the office until the 18th! And to celebrate, I swam 500 meters at the gym. Now we’re watching The Town, which all in all seems like a great way to jumpstart 12 days off.

In support of @carey1216’s 30 by thirty list, I have agreed to run a half marathon with her in seattle, Washington. This is a daunting commitment for me as I hate to run… However, as we pack our bags for Mexico, nothing brings me more joy than packing my headphones and running shoes to follow…
i guess that means i should pack MY running shoes :)

Officially registered...
I currently can’t even run 2 miles without stopping, but I’m at least limitedly convinced that in June, I’ll be able to run 13.1. Today, I officially registered for the Seattle Rock and Roll Half Marathon.
Who in their right mind thinks I’ll be able to run that far (at one time) six months from now?
