last night we did pistols. and today my guns are a-blazing. it was my last day in the office before the biggest event of the year, and trying to escape at a reasonable time to make it to crossfit was one hell of a challenge. started trying to leave at 5:45; didn’t actually get out the door until 6:20. and then it was almost quite literally a race against traffic to get (all the way across the bridge and back) home, change, and get to the box by 7p. i made it with 5 minutes to spare - #winning!

it was a good crowd; some new guy who was (freaking ripped) and in town for the weekend. I’m going to be him this week in LA (albeit a lot less ripped, but still). the WOD (17 minute cutoff):

I got through all 2000m, all 50 pistols and 15 hang cleans in 17 minutes. respectable i think.

today i head down to LA and tomorrow at 8:30 one of my clients and I are hitting up Crossfit Dogtown (thanks for the reco surfwods). Crossfit with a client - we’ll see how this goes. He knows I’m new to the sport and has agreed to make sure I don’t get hung out to dry. i don’t know why i’m worried about that as hanging people out to dry isn’t really crossfit’s motto - unless you’re talking about hanging out all my dripping with sweat workout stuff, because THAT happens a lot.

i think i’m addicted.

deadlifts

going into Wednesday, my chest and shoulders were already sore. then i learned how to deadlift. it looks so easy, and in reality, it’s not that difficult, but holy crap these suckers are hardass little b*tches.

then time was up (for me) but if it wasn’t, we would have carried on to farmers carrry, burpee box jumps, the more farmer’s carry then more muscle ups. i don’t even know what a farmer’s carry is (no one made it that far) but i know it involves kettlebells.

i officially go through the first 5 rounds in total, then 19 (or the 21) t2b on the 6th (so so close to making it to the second half!)

guys, my biceps, triceps and pectoral muscles are all screaming - loudly - i popped some fish oil, worked through the night and went back for some more on thursday. omg my arms are so so sore.

Monday - I missed xfit because i stayed too late at work and was 10 minutes late and they closed up early because everyone else had come earlier in the day. i was also probably psyching myself out about “murph” but to be honest, it’s because i was too focused on me - whether or not i could do it - than focusing on the hero it was named for.

Tuesday - walked out of work early and made it! Coach was fresh off judging the PNW regionals and the workouts this week have been from that. yowza. if i didn’t have enough respect for those folks before, i absolutely do now.

PS i’m back on the paleo bandwagon for round two of a 30 day challenge. the first time around went well (didn’t cheat at all) then had a weekend full of panera and froyo and feeling kinda like shit, so i’m back at it. this time with fewer nuts and fruit and hopefully way more transformation in my body. we shall see.

crossfit in LA anyone?

i’m heading down to LA for a week next Friday and I’m looking for a crossfit box. Any LA crossfitters out there have a gym fit for a relative newbie? I’ve only been crossfitting for about a month, but i already don’t want to go a whole week without it.

3 in a row…

…otherwise known as 10-days-before-the biggest-event-i’ve-ever-worked-on-and-i’m-a-tiny-bit-overwhelmed/stressed…and probably more appropriately - FINISH STRONG! today was the 30th day of my 30 day paleo challenge! so i had to finish well.

so yesterday Troy was talking about this thing where you throw the sandball at the ground and catch it on the bounce. he demonstrated and we all thought it looked hardcore yet impossible. well today, we did 30 of them. #possible. 

warmup:

then came the…fun. 5 rounds of:

23:35. and dude, it was intense. i was almost certain i was gonna puke especially when i got a scratch in my throat and started coughing.

oh and Una was there. barking and cheering us on (or at least that’s what i’m telling myself).

tomorrow i will weigh, measure and get a froyo. so excited.

tonight was two days in a row of crossfit, which was fun. it was just me and two new kids - brother and sister; pretty sure they were still in high school. they were cool.

warmup: 75 double unders or 300 singles (i got 5 DUs total, not in a row and did about 275 singles)

skill: clean and jerks (3 x 3 x 3 at 55#). i’m not so good at the jumping and jerking, but i’m working on it. my L wrist’s crazy sore right now so i’m hoping that calms down.

just as i was finishing up today’s WOD, i started to feel yesterday’s. i made some seriously delicious paleo spaghetti (on a bed of zucchini and carrots) for dinner (tomorrow’s day 30 of the 30 day challenge) and then I gave my foam roller some serious quality time (on the floor, against the wall, etc.). tomorrow will be a doozy, i can already tell.

two in a row - may 17

hit two days in a row of crossfit last week. was uuber proud of self just for muscling up the strength to manage it - then i realized - i have to leave work at a descent time to make it, so it makes me focus more during the day. and now that work peeps know i crossfit, they ask me if i’m going that day - and if the answer is ‘yes’ i get to leave early (for us, which is really like 6pm instead of 8pm). 

anyway. it was hard. so hard.

holy benchpress batman

so I’m not the new(est) kid anymore! I mean I’m still new, but tonight there was a brand new girl named Krissy. I went out of my way to make her feel welcome (i hope she felt welcome) and gosh i hope she comes back.

I’m starting to make friends at my box (hehe, my box, yeah i’m getting in my practice with the lingo). the Monday/Wednesday crew of Bart, Brandon and Marc (who’s always there it seems) are good people. but i digress.

the warmup was a whole bunch of things I’d never done before:

there’s no doubt in my mind that I’m going to feel all this tomorrow morning. in an oh so good kinda way. making progress but still have a looooooooong way to go.

sounds like we’re doing “Fran” this Saturday, so I looked it up. mmhmm. okay.

still doing the paleo 30 day thing, and it’s going pretty well. had two days in a row stuck on campus where i didn’t have any supplies. yesterday at about 445, i broke down and had 2 honey/almond TLC granola bars, not the worst thing I could have taken from the admin’s office, but definitely not paleo. today I didn’t eat anything non-paleo, but i had 2 iced americanos with heavy cream. someone sometime needs to explain how heavy cream is OK for paleo when the rest of dairy is not okay. i’d love to know as I keep getting asked. note to self - two of those coffees does not a happy tummy make - just fyi.

the challenge ends May 23 and I’m definitely having a froyo straight away. then i might do it for another 30 days.
