dollars4miles: supporting Abel’s 6n6
I’ve been thinking about doing this for a couple weeks now, so it’s time to officially put it out there.
I’ve been following Abel’s crazy yet awesome quest to run 6 marathons in 6 months to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and I can’t lie, while it wasn’t what got me started running (read: jogging), it’s definitely what keeps me going to the gym every day.
Yes, I’m at the gym for me - to get healthy, lose weight, get the coveted “gym rat” badge on foursquare (done!) and ultimately “do life”*, instead of watching it pass me by. But I’m a cause-oriented person, so I need something to contribute to; something bigger than me that will help hold me accountable; something that I can focus on other than my weight, my routine, myself.
So here’s how I’m supporting Abel’s 6n6**:
- for every mile I run, I will donate $1
- race miles are double $2/mile
- elliptical, bike, etc. miles pay out at $.50
Money will be contributed weekly (Abel, can you send me the link again?) and I’m using DailyMile to keep track. Starting Jan 24 (when I first thought about it).
Week of Jan 24 total:
- 11.4 mi cycling = $5.70
- 5 mi running = $5
*why does it not sound cliche when ben says it?
**until Abel completes his 6th marathon or I complete my first 1/2 marathon, whichever happens last.
